Weekly Notes- March 31, 2015

The youth did an amazing job leading the service last Sunday on the topic of promoting gender equality. I especially enjoyed the “Time For All Ages” on boy vs. girl toys. Next week will be an Easter egg hunt. The students will be searching for class sets of eggs to trade in for puzzles on the seven UU principles.

  • Our next FUNdraiser is Thursday, April 23rd from 4:00-9:00pm at Lala Gallery. Please RSVP at 414-7962 by April 20th. You may choose to design a flowerpot or mug for $18 per person. The UU will receive 30% of the amount raised. You may also bring food/beverages.
  • We are collecting donations for the Blue Buckets campaign to help Kenya protect their water supply. Our congregational goal is $150. Look for the blue bucket at the RE table to make a donation.
  • Interested in becoming a guide, shadow, sub, or volunteer? Have a child in RE and want to find out more about the program? Are you a guide who wants to explore interesting and relevant topics for the RE classroom? If so, one or more of these sessions may be for you. Childcare will be provided!

Last week, Bill Welge led us in a spirit circle about water conservation. Next week, we will have a youth led service on gender equality.

In March, we will celebrate the third source, wisdom from the world’s religions, which inspires us in our ethical and spiritual life. Last week we celebrated the Hindu celebration of Maha Shivaratri and learned some important life lessons on humility from Neelu. Next week we’ll have a spirit circle on water conservation led by Bill Welge.

In March, we will celebrate the third source, wisdom from the world’s religions, which inspires us in our ethical and spiritual life. Last week we celebrated Purim with an all-ages service that included some fun music and a skit. Thanks to the crowd for “making some noise.” This week we will learn about the history of the Hindu celebration of Maha Shivaratri.

  • What is the holiday of Maha Shivaratri and why is it celebrated?
  • Fasting is an important part of the Maha Shivaratri holiday. What are some things that you can give up? How will giving up those things make a positive impact on your life?
  • What are origin stories? What are some UU origin stories? What is the Maha Shivaratri origin story?

  • What is karma and what do the Hindus believe about karma?

CHILD AND YOUTH RELIGIOUS EXPLORATION

In March, we will celebrate the third source, wisdom from the world’s religions, which inspires us in our ethical and spiritual life. This week will be an all-ages’ service on the Jewish holiday, Purim.
