Weekly Notes- September 1, 2015

Last week, we were excited to see such a large group for RE classes! We continued building classroom community by learning more about each other. Some classes made calming jars, worked on goals for the year, and answered essential questions. Next week, we’ll be learning about the 7 principles of the UUCTC.

  • RE registration is now open. Please see the RE website to register your child.
  • August 30th (RE Open House and Time Capsule) This event will be held from 11:45 to 12:15. The RE classrooms and DRE office will be open to parents. This will be a time to get more information about the upcoming RE year. I will be opening up my office for a meet and greet and will be doing a time capsule project with the students. The time capsule will be created for each child who attends and will include the following: photo of the child, ribbon cut to show height, information sheet completed by the child, and outline of the child’s hand. The time capsules will be opened up at the conclusion of the RE year (May 2016).

Weekly Notes- August 11, 2015

Last week, we didn’t let the weather stop us from having an amazing time at the bike rodeo. We rode an obstacle course, learned about bike safety, played red light/green light to learn about bike signals, and shared some snacks. Special thanks to Bicycle Lafayette for leading the event. Next week is an all ages service celebrating water communion.

  • Thanks to everyone who came out for the retreat. We had a marvelous time at Camp Tecumseh. There was canoeing, ziplining, hiking, dancing, singin, good food, and memories made. We even got to meet all kinds of animals. Special thanks to Neal Morehead at Camp Tecumseh for being an excellent tour guide.

Weekly Notes- August 4, 2015

Last week, we ended the summer field trips with a trip to Ellen Germann’s house for weaving, snacks, and attempting to lure cats out of hiding. J Next week, we’ll learn about bike safety with a bike rodeo.

RE Class Information and Guide Schedule for 8/9: Bicycle Lafayette will host a bike rodeo to teach students about bike safety and to participate in other fun bike activities, such as an obstacle course. Feel free to bring your own bike or bikes will be available. There will be snacks and fun so please join us and invite other community members that you think would be interested. The bike rodeo will be held from 10:30-12:30 on Smiley between Chauncey and Vine. In the event of storms, we will meet in forum room 101/103 for a talk on bike safety. Let me know if you’d like to volunteer to help out with this event.
